CI2020 Cancelled Due to COVID-19 – Update March 9, 2020
After closely monitoring developments related to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak and assessing its current and potential impact, the American Cochlear Implant Alliance has made the difficult but important decision to cancel the CI2020 International Conference, March 18-21, 2020 in Orlando, FL.
As members of the global community, we recognize the challenge this outbreak is placing on the medical community. Given the rapid evolution and uncertainty surrounding the transmission of COVID-19 and the travel restrictions being enacted by a large and growing number of universities, hospitals and other institutions which have prohibited both international and domestic US travel as well as attendance at meetings, ACI Alliance Leadership have made the difficult but responsible decision to cancel the CI2020 meeting. Given the circumstances, it was impossible for the conference to go forward.
Preparing for the conference involves the time, talent and ideas of many members and volunteers, speakers, presenters, exhibitors, sponsors and event partners. We especially recognize and thank the UNC Scientific Program Committee, which assembled an extraordinary program for all of us. We’re grateful for the work and contributions of so many people and deeply disappointed not to be able to hold the meeting as planned.
Please review the FAQs for Registrants (below) to find information to answer your immediate questions regarding cancellations.
We will miss seeing you in Orlando and hope to see you next year in Dallas for CI2021.

COVID-19 Update – March 4, 2020
Dear ACI Alliance Members, Attendees and Sponsors,
We are in the midst of an expanding global coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). As of March 4, 2020, we, as organizers, continue to move forward with convening the CI2020 International Conference on March 18-21, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. We want to assure attendees that your safety and security are our top priority. ACI Alliance leaders will continue to monitor COVID-19 in the United States to address the safety of our attendees.
At this time, no Federal restrictions are in place restricting meetings and travel within the United States. We are consulting the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Orange County and the Florida Department of Health and will continue to evaluate any risk in the Orlando area.
We commit to communicating regularly on any further developments.
The great majority of registrants and presenters plan to attend CI2020 in Orlando and are looking forward to a wonderful program. At this time, ACI Alliance is accommodating cancellations from attendees traveling from countries designated as a Level 3 or 4 Alert location by the CDC. Updates and impacted countries can be found on the CDC's Travel Health Notices page.
Cancellations and registrations postmarked after the Cancellation deadline date (Friday, February 7) will not be eligible for refunds.
What ACI Alliance is Doing to Protect Attendees
ACI Alliance and our meeting planners are working closely with the Hyatt Regency Orlando to ensure that the safety of guests is planned for at the meeting. Working collaboratively with the hotel, we are reviewing and will implement procedures recommended by the CDC. We are reviewing all aspects of hotel operations affecting CI2020 attendees and implementing precautionary measures including:
- Extra hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the venue
- Microphones, podiums, and high-touch surfaces will be cleaned frequently with EPA approved products for Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)
- Food service at meals, breaks, and receptions will be designed to minimize self-service items
- The well-being of guests will be monitored during check-in and throughout the hotel
- Hyatt staff have been educated on these and other personal prevention measures
Personal Preventive Measures
Attendees are encouraged to review and follow standard infection control recommendations and everyday preventive actions to prevent the spread of respiratory infections. Preventative measures are available on the CDC website. Attendees should not travel to CI2020 if they are feeling unwell.
We look forward to welcoming attendees to CI2020 in Orlando and to an outstanding scientific program. Many thanks to the UNC Scientific Program Committee and our speakers, moderators, and poster presenters for their participation.
